Job Summary

Centre Electric & Technology is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Security Technician to join our growing Security Division. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in security systems installation and maintenance while working in a dynamic and safety-focused environment.

As a Security Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, servicing, and troubleshooting of a variety of security systems, including access control, intrusion detection, CCTV, and intercom systems. You will work closely with other technicians and office staff to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.

This role requires a proactive problem-solver with strong attention to detail, the ability to self-start, and a willingness to lead or mentor other technicians when needed. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of low-voltage systems, cable routing, and device mounting, and be able to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical documentation.


Key Responsibilities

Your role as a Security Technician will involve the installation, servicing, and troubleshooting of security systems in commercial and industrial settings. You will work closely with senior technicians, project managers, and office staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and high-quality service delivery. A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and lead when needed are essential for success in this role. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Full-Time Availability: This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime or work outside regular hours may be required, with compensation provided in accordance with BC labour laws.
  2. System Installation & Servicing: Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot various security systems including access control, intrusion alarms, CCTV, and intercom systems.
  3. Wiring and Equipment Setup: Route and terminate low-voltage cabling; mount and configure devices such as cameras, card readers, control panels, and monitors.
  4. Technical Documentation: Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and product manuals to ensure accurate installation and compliance with specifications.
  5. System Programming and Configuration: Program and calibrate devices and systems according to manufacturer standards and project requirements.
  6. Worksite Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Follow all workplace safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and tools.
  7. Client & Team Communication: Collaborate with site supervisors, office staff, and other technicians. Communicate clearly with clients when needed and provide excellent service and support.
  8. Leadership and Mentorship: Demonstrate the ability to work independently on standard service calls and installations. Provide guidance to junior technicians as needed.
  9. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve system issues, wiring errors, or connectivity problems in the field.
  10. Professional Conduct: Maintain a high standard of punctuality, professionalism, and reliability in all aspects of work.
  11. Tool and Vehicle Use: Operate and maintain security tools and test equipment. A company phone, laptop, and vehicle will be provided for work purposes.
  12. Service Response & On-Call Support: Respond to service calls as needed, including participation in an on-call rotation schedule.

Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience in a security technician role or related field is preferred; however, we are willing to train the right candidate with a strong mechanical or technical aptitude.
  • Mechanical & Tool Proficiency: Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to operate various hand tools effectively.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with computer hardware and basic networking principles is essential for installing and troubleshooting security systems.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and wiring schematics.
  • Licensing: Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required. Also, a TQ or BCDL certification is considered an asset
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, coworkers, and office staff.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on completing tasks accurately and maintaining high standards of work quality.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, supporting fellow technicians and project leaders.
  •  Reliability: Demonstrates punctuality, professionalism, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Safety Awareness: Committed to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
